If you don’t view the government as an industry, then the House Un-American Activities Committee went after the film industry first. The House Un-American Activities Committee developed a list of people believed to be supportive or unsupportive of the activities of the committee. Those who considered unsupportive were people who wouldn’t answer any questions from the committee. Any person in the film industry labeled as supportive of communism would be blacklisted. They wouldn’t be able to find work unless they cooperated with the committee.
