Can you do a Venn diagram of the North and the South during Manifest Destiny?

I suppose you could do a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast almost any two items.  The Venn Diagram for the North and South from the 1850's would have a few important items that would be considered differences between the North and South. The items that would be found in the outer circles (differences) would include the following:

  • North was urban-centered; South was rural.

  • North was opposed to slavery; South supported slavery.

  • North more likely to support a strong federal government;  South believed in local rule and strong state governments.

  • North did not want expansion of slavery to new territories;  South wanted new territories to utilize slavery and be used for expansion of agriculture.

The items in the shared area of the Venn Diagram could include many items. In speaking about Manifest Destiny, both the North and South believed that American culture was superior to Native American culture.  In addition, the North and South have a shared history and culture, so you could place a lot of items about this in there.  For example, both speak English and are predominantly Protestant.
